NNN, Inc. History

In 1974 the neighbors joined to form an association to promote and stabilize homeownership in the near northwest neighborhood of South Bend. After twenty years of work the association was transformed into a Community Development Corporation.

The Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc. (NNN) promotes neighborhood leadership and the interests of the residents by inviting the community to participate in a variety of social and environmental programs. Leadership has remained in the hands of the residents through a Board of Directors and committee structure to carry out the work.

The NNN has also continued its program to acquire and renovate houses into homes. In 1999 the organization renovated a neighborhood landmark, Minkler’s Hardware Store, into its offices.
